If the master blaster had not posted a picture of his knee injury with his leg left covered in a black cast on his instagram account this news might have gone unnoticed. But Sachin Tendulkar fans definitely took a note of it and reacted with empathy and wishes for early recovery. It was only after the picture went on instagram that the world came to know the legend had to undergo a knee surgery to rectify some injury he had during his career in London.
In his own words he had written: 'Some injuries trouble even after retirement, but I will be back very soon doing the things I enjoy. Had a knee operation & resting.'
However this isn't the first time that he had to go under the knife due to an old injury that was vying for his constant attention. In fact, in his career span of over two decades the legend had to face a host of injuries but always came out stronger.
In 1999 he was out of a tri-series featuring Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India due to a back injury
In 2001 a toe injury kept him out of another tri-series with New Zealand and Sri Lanka
In 2002 a hamstring injury kept him away from playing a one-day series against Zimbabwe and West Indies in the home ground
In 2003 an ankle injury got the better of him
Not to forget the famous tennis elbow, that kept him out of action for the major part of 2004 and 2005. Of course, he had to undergo a surgery later.
In 2006 he had to undergo a shoulder surgery and the year next he was again out of action for most time due to a broken knee.
In 2008 it was a groin injury that kept him out of most IPL matches.
Well, the list of injuries Sachin had during his career is really long but it amazes how he came out stronger every time and proved his talent with his bat time and again. Not everyone is strong enough to take in the pressures of the game, face the challenges with injuries and take every match in his stride. Yes, that's what makes Sachin Tendulkar almost the God of the game. While he has retired and is out of action, we still pray and wish for his faster recovery as we all want to see our favourite cricketer fit, healthy and happy.
