Revealed -- 5 simple steps to live a healthy, long life

A new study revealed five simple lifestyle rules that promote a healthy, long life -- exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, minimal alcohol consumption, sensible eating and avoiding smoking.

The study, conducted over a period of 35 years in 30 men, concluded that these five rules guarantee longevity, reported Daily Express. These men followed the recommended steps for living a healthy life and unlike today when people get diagnosed with lifestyle disorders like diabetes and heart disease, they developed a disease at a much older age compared to men who neglected a healthy lifestyle. It was also found that a healthy lifestyle reduces the risk of developing diabetes by 70%, heart attack, stroke and dementia by 60%, and cancer by 40%.

According to general practitioner (GP) Ian Campbell, the study findings are a wake-up call for people and also for officials of National Health Service (NHS). He asserted that people should be encouraged to adopt these principles. (Read: Lifestyle diseases on the rise in urban India)
