Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt who is serving his prison term in Yerawada jail is suffering from low blood pressure also known as hypotension. The state home department is said to be making efforts to move him to a hospital in Mumbai. Dutt is the brother of Congress MP Priya Dutt and was convicted for the illegal possession of arms in the 1993 serial blasts case and sentenced to five years in prison. The actor has been in jail in May and was arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act.
What is hypotension or low blood pressure?
Hypotension or low blood pressure (BP) can be as dangerous as hypertension because it can restrict blood flow to the brain and other vital organs. Blood pressure is mostly caused due to heart-related conditions like a low heart rate. It can also be caused due hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) and diabetes. Also dehydration caused due to fever, diarrhoea, strenuous exercise or overuse diuretics (drug that can help expel urine) can all case hypotension.
