A towering figure in the world of letters, Udupi Rajagopalacharya Ananthamurthy, passed away on Friday in a Banglore hospital due to multiple-organ failure. He suffered kidney failure and later developed cardiac as well respiratory complications
The condition of 82-year old Murthy, admitted 10 days ago, had deteriorated and he was being closely monitored with multiple support system including dialysis, support for blood pressure, antibiotics for infection, and other measures, Manipal Hospital Medical Director & Chairman Medical Advisory Board H Sudarshan Ballal told reporters.
A multi-faceted personality and rated as one of the best writers in the country, 82-year old Ananthamurthy has won acclaim from critics and fans alike. He was modern in his sensibilities and intellectual underpinnings in his literary works questioned many deeply-held beliefs. Like his literary works, Ananthamurthy's strong political views were also striking, often landing him in unseemly situations and controversies.
