We d like to think that actresses and celebs who are the epitome of beauty and fitness would be spared from being body shamed. But it turns out that no one is immune. Millions of faceless trolls take to the internet every day to vent their frustration on unsuspecting people, mostly women and shame them from things ranging from their body size to their skin colour. Nevertheless, feisty personalities like Richa Chadda, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra have given these internet bullies a thorough dressing down. And the recent one to join their league is former Big Boss contestant Rochelle Rao.
The actress recently posted a series of four photographs with thoughtful captions centred on the theme of body positivity. She spoke about the myth of perfect beauty, a yardstick with which most actors are judged. She says, We live in a day and age when we all want to be perfect! You have put a lot of weight on recently, and a lot of people have commented!... Well I ask you, is there something wrong with that? We all have phases in our lives and this too is a phase! Why do we have to be perfect all the time? We ve stopped being comfortable
with who we are! And so here I am sharing my imperfections, pictures which show the real me, that is not hiding behind the veil of Photoshop! Are you willing to take off the mask? I m not perfect and neither is anyone else, so lets share the imperfections! You are beyond your photos!
"Loving oneself isn't hard, when you understand who and what 'yourself' is. It has nothing to do with the shape of your face, the size of your eyes, the length of your hair or the quality of your clothes. It's so beyond all of those things and it's what gives life to everything about you. Your own self is such a treasure." She commented that body shaming stems from insecurities on the bullies part. So instead of being hurt by such comments, she urged her followers to practice self love and be proud of who they are. Rather than hiding, I choose to highlight my imperfections! The parts of me I was taught to hate, I now choose to show off! I choose to announce that yes I m not perfect! My question to you is are you willing to share your imperfections with the world?
Although she is not among the first to talk about body shaming, it is encouraging to know that body-positive celebs are breaking traditional notions of what is considered beautiful. We hope more celebs take a leaf out of her book and inspire their young fans to love themselves over everything else. Read to know why it is wrong to shame anybody.
