Rare lung transplant saves the life of 34 year old

A rare lung transplant, the third of its kind was performed in a Secunderabad based hospital.Surgeons at the Yashodhara Hospital operated on the lungs of a 34-year-old woman from Pune, who was suffering from interstitial fibrosis, a condition where the lungs become stiff, reducing the passage of oxygen into the blood.

The hospital's team comprising chief cardiothoracic transplant and minimal access surgeon AGK Gokhale and senior consultant anesthetist Subramanyam performed the 14-hour long surgery.
