A heart attack is a serious medical condition that occurs when the supply of blood to the heart is suddenly blocked caused by a blood clot. Heart attack is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and coronary heart disease (CHD) is one major reason.
"Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is the most common type of heart disease in the United States. It is sometimes called coronary heart disease or ischemic heart disease," the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explains, "For some people, the first sign of CAD is a heart attack. You and your health care team may be able to help reduce your risk for CAD. Angina, or chest pain and discomfort, is the most common symptom of CAD."
According to the UK National Health Survey (NHS) before a heart attack occurs, one of the plaques ruptures causing a blood clot to develop at the site of the rupture. Now, when this happens the blood clot may block the supply of blood to the heart, triggering a heart attack.
The UK health agency outlines that heart attack complications depend on the severity of the damage done during the attack. It also depends on the likelihood of a person's age.
One of the most common symptoms a person with an impending heart disease experiences is chest pain, which is a feeling of heaviness, tightness, pressure, or squeezing across your chest. Apart from chest pain, people may also show signs like sweating, shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing, anxiety, nausea, and pain in other parts of the body including the jaw, neck, back and tummy.
There are many ways you can reduce your risk of having a heart attack. However, as per research done in the past and doctors with years of experience, they suggest that the best way to reduce your risk of having another heart attack is quitting smoking, losing weight, regularly exercising, eating a low-fat diet and also avoiding alcohol consumption.
