The state government was not content with just constituting an enquiry into the alleged lapses on part of the Jodhpur medical college in the handling of the eyes dontated to it.
Health minister Rajendra Rathore went one step further to ensure that a similar episode does not happen in the future.
He set up another three-member committee to investigate the management of all seven eye bank hospitals in the state. This committee has been directed to report on their status within a week's time, sources said.
After chairing a meeting with health officers on alleged negligence in procurement of eyes in Jodhpur, the health minister said that donation of eyes is great work and donated eyes should be used appropriately.
'If any officer is found negligent in procurement and storage of the donated eyes then disciplinary action would be taken against him. I have already ordered an inquiry in this matter,' he said speaking to media persons. (Read: Have you pledged your eyes yet? (Expert speak))
Doctors at the college have been insisting that 90 per cent of the eyes donated in last 6 years did find use, but did not come up with records of previous.
