Camilla, Queen of the United Kingdom, sends a 'deep regret' as she missed the Duchess of Kent's funeral service due to a health complication. The Buckingham Palace has recently issued a rare update on Queen Camilla's health, as King Charles and other senior royals gather to pay tribute to Katherine, Duchess of Kent, at the Westminster Cathedral.
In a recent statement released by Buckingham Palace, it states that Queen Camilla will not be present at the funeral service of the Duchess of Kent, Katharine, who died at the age of 92 on September 4. She was married to the late Queen Elizabeth II's first cousin, the Duke of Kent.
The Buckingham Palace statement read, "With great regret, Her Majesty The Queen has withdrawn from attendance at this afternoon's Requiem Mass for The Duchess of Kent as she is recovering from acute sinusitis. Her thoughts and prayers will be with The Duke of Kent and all the family."
As per reports, the Duke of Kent has been notified about Camilla's choice and has also conveyed his best wishes and speedy recovery to The Queen. Paying a heartfelt tribute to the Duchess of Kent, Prince William and Princess Catherine also took to the Royal Kensington Palace official social media account to share, "Our thoughts today are with The Duke of Kent and his family, particularly George, Helen and Nicholas. The Duchess worked tirelessly to help others and supported many causes, including through her love of music. She will be a much missed member of the family."
Following the death of the Duchess of Kent, Buckingham Palace released a statement on September 5. It read, "It is with deep sorrow that Buckingham Palace announces the death of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent. Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family."
"The King and Queen and all Members of The Royal Family join The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss and remembering fondly The Duchess's life-long devotion to all the organizations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people," Buckingham Palace's statement concluded.
The cause of death of Katherine, the Duchess of Kent, is unknown, but on the day of her demise, the Union flag was lowered to half-mast as a sign of respect shortly after the death of the duchess was announced.
