A 53-year-old quack posing as a doctor was arrested for running a clinic here, police said Saturday. Suresh Verma was arrested from his clinic in south Delhi's Munirka Friday. 'Verma has been running a clinic claiming he was an MBBS degree holder. After failing to produce the degree, he was arrested,' said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police.

'His mother's death inspired him to become a doctor. He studied up to Class 10 and completed a diploma in ayurveda from Uttar Pradesh in 1984. Later, he started his clinic and would prescribe patients allopathic medicines,' Sharma said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chhaya Sharma added, 'Such people are hazardous for society. In the garb of registered medical practitioners, they play with the lives of people. We will conduct an intensive hunt for such quacks and also conduct door-to-door surveys to sensitise people. Sources have been deployed to gather information about such impersonators. Strict action will be taken against them.'
