Many children in India suffer from Down s Syndrome, a genetic disorder in which a child has slow mental maturation and delayed or impaired physical development. Recently, a video Dear Maa with foreword narrated by Juhi Chawla was released on YouTube. Dear Maa is a touching message that features the day-to-day life of the children suffering from Down s Syndrome. The video brings to light the fact that every year in India thousands of children who are afflicted with Down s Syndrome are aborted in the womb. The ones fortunate to be born are considered to be a liability by family and society.

Appreciating the initiative actress Priyanka Chopra, who supports UNICEF's adolescent work in the country, tweeted on Sunday, It's a disservice to categorise them. Every single child is special in their own unique way. Do watch this.' The actress also posted the link of the three and half minute video on her Twitter account.

Down Syndrome, (DS) remains an incurable condition. But experts believe that acceptance by the family and early intervention go a long way in ensuring that a person with the disorder can live a normal life and be socially independent.
