Private-Public Partnership: Narayana Hrudayalaya and Assam Govt to set up superspeciality hospital

The Assam state government inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bangalore-based Narayana Hrudayalaya under PPP mode for setting up a 300-bed super specialty hospital in the state, the first such in the northeast region. It is also expected to cater to the needs of patients from Bangladesh and Bhutan. The MoU was signed with Narayana Hrudayalaya Pvt. Ltd. for the hospital which will be built under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode in Amingaon on the outskirts of Guwahati. The existing Tola Ram Bafna Civil Hospital at Amingaon will house the proposed hospital. This signals the start of a Private-Public Partnership initiative in healthcare which could benefit the nation in the long run.

"The basic objective of setting up the super specialty hospital is to extend the latest quality healthcare services to the common people," said Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi while speaking on the occasion.

"The Narayana Hrudayalaya has been playing an important role in making available latest quality healthcare services to the poor people through various health insurance schemes with the government," Gogoi said. Assam is also planning to launch a health insurance policy for the people, he said.

It will be a 300-bed hospital and will offer treatment at government rates on 50 percent of the beds.
