Heart disease has slowly become a major public health concern as the number of people suffering from hypertension, high blood cholesterol levels etc are on a rise. A new research claims that optimism has a huge impact on heart healthy and it can stave off heart disease. The research conducted at Penn State University examined 1000 people with coronary heart disease and found that a positive psychological state helps people in staying more active, sleep better and take their medications on time. These people were also less likely to smoke compared to those who did have a positive psychological state. The lead researcher explained that positive emotions are associated with a range of long-term health habits, which are important for reducing the risk of future heart problems and death. While staying positive improves the overall health of a person, you can do a lot more to keep your heart healthy and not just exercise regularly or healthy diet.
Keep your stress levels in check. It is often that we are stressed out due to tight work schedules and lack fo sleep thereafter but little do we realise it takes a huge toll on your heart health. Stress is responsible for the release of a stress hormone called cortisol which in turn affects blood pressure levels, blood cholesterol and blood sugar levels which altogether increase your risk of heart disease. So ensure you go destress regularly to keep your heart healthy. Another easy thing to do is lose that belly fat. Scientists believe that abdominal fat increases one's risk of heart disease. Abdominal fat increases blood cholesterol levels, blood sugar level both of which are risk factors for heart disease. You must also eat a fibre rich diet and include foods like bananas, dates etc. You should also eat regularly and not skip your breakfast as fluctuations in blood sugar levels also increase the risk of heart disease.
