The Abhiyan for better Health in India will conclude on April 22, 2025 - reinforcing the Government of India's commitment to fight malnutrition and ensure holistic health and nutrition for all, especially vulnerable groups like women and children.
According to the MWCD officials, the Poshan Abhiyan primarily aims to promote a healthy and nutritious diet among children and women with a blend of technology and tradition. The 2025 edition focuses on the first 1000 days of a child's life as it is a critical period for child development. "
Poshan Abhiyaan, a flagship initiative launched by the Prime Minister, continues its mission to combat malnutrition, improving nutritional outcomes for pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls, and children under the age of 06. This year's Poshan Pakhwada will be instrumental in strengthening content, delivery, outreach, and outcomes. As part of the broader Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, the initiative focuses on fostering health, wellness, and immunity against diseases and malnutrition."
Launched under the umbrella of Poshan Abhiyaan, a flagship initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the fortnight-long celebration will focus on four key themes:
Focus on the First 1000 Days of Life
Popularization of the Beneficiary/Citizen Module of the Poshan Tracker
Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM)
Healthy Lifestyle to Address Childhood Obesity
These targeted themes aim to improve the nutritional outcomes for pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls, and children under six years, as part of the larger Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0.
The Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt. Annpurna Devi will visit Arunachal Pradesh in the first week of the Pakhwada to assess the ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening support for women and children in the state. This year's edition of Poshan Pakhwada is expected to be outcome-oriented, involving collaborative efforts by various central and state agencies, NGOs, and community members. The aim is to empower the grassroots by focusing on door-to-door outreach, health and nutrition camps, and awareness drives at village, block, and district levels.
The emphasis on the first 1,000 days of life from conception to a child's second birthday recognizes this as a critical window for laying the foundation for a healthy life. Poshan Pakhwada 2025 will promote exclusive breastfeeding, timely complementary feeding, and maternal nutrition, especially in rural and marginalized communities.
With a clear focus on putting an end to India's nutritional deficiency problems and building awareness through Jan Andolan (People's Movement), Poshan Pakhwada 2025 this year is expected to strive to towards making the country well informed about nutritional choices. Experts say that such governmental initiatives are vital for fulfilling the Prime Minister's vision of a Suposhit Bharat (Well-Nourished India) where every child, woman, and family enjoys a healthy, disease-free life.
As India battles malnutrition and rising lifestyle disorders, this year's Poshan Pakhwada serves as a timely and crucial intervention to ensure that nutrition becomes a national priority not just for a fortnight, but for life.
