Popstar Selena Gomez opens up about her struggle with Lupus--know what it is

Popstar Selena Gomez has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder like lupus. According to a report by BBC, she is also receiving chemotherapy treatment s for the same. Selena was first diagnosed with the condition in 2013 and had also cancelled her Asia and Australia tour. She also took treatment at the Dawn at the Meadows rehab facilities, and her break gave rise to rumours about her dealing with substance abuse.However, Selena has opened up about her diagnosis and also criticised tabloids and websites that linked her with drug addiction.

Lupus is an autoimmune disorder that causes the body's immune system to attack its own tissues and organs which lead to inflammation. Lupus affects different parts of the body such as joints and causes severe pain. It is hereditary disease and might be present at birth but, symptoms start appearing only when triggered by an external factor such as exposure to sunlight, certain drugs and infection. As of now, there is no way to predict if one would suffer from lupus and the diagnosis is difficult as there are no distinguishable symptoms. However, one very striking feature of the disease is the facial rash that looks like unfolding wings of a butterfly and it appears on the cheek. Other symptoms include fatigue, loss of appetite arthritis, ulcers, muscle pain etc. As of now there is no cure for the disease but there are lot of options that can control the disease.
