Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is the next biggest high profile CEO s to visit India, the second largest market for the social networking giant. He will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the Internet.org summit scheduled on October 9-10 in the city.
Reportedly, this time Modi will also be proposing the billionaire to partner with the Indian government for the recent initiative Swach Bharat or Clean India campaign. Launched on October 2, 2014, the 'Swachh Bharat' campaign is slowly gaining popularity after the PM nominated celebrities including master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar, actor Kamal Hasan, industrialist Anil Ambani to spread awareness about cleanliness. If Facebook agrees with the alliance, it will give the campaign a big boost.
Zuckerberg will be meeting Modi, along with other key ministries, for Internet.org in the city. The 'Internet.Org' summit is aimed at making Internet access affordable for people all over the world. It is focused on enabling a population of five billion people without Internet access to come online. The founding members of the project include Facebook, Ericsson, MediaTek, Nokia, Opera, Qualcomm and Samsung.
Zuckerberg will also meet Modi to talk about how Facebook and the Indian government can collaborate on Internet.org. The discussion was initiated in the month of July, when Facebook's Chief Operating Officer Sandberg visited India to talk about effective used social networking during his election campaign and later even in governance. When Modi met Sandberg, he had suggested the use of Facebook for improving governance, better interaction between people and the government, and to attract more tourists to India. India is an important market for the social networking company. With over one billion users globally, the company gets over 100 million users from India. Many of these users log onto the website from their mobile devices. The Internet.org summit will bring together experts, officials and industry leaders to focus on ways to deliver more Internet services for people in languages other than English.
