A three-member team of doctors have advised former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf to undergo angiography. The suggestion from the doctors was made after studying the medical reports of Musharraf.
Special arrangements, including the setting up of a separate ward to conduct backbones tests of Musharraf, were made at the PNS Shifa hospital in Karachi. According to Dawn News, Musharraf is expected to be admitted at PNS Shifa.
The port city has been on high alert since the arrival of the former military dictator in a chartered airplane yesterday, with roads being cordoned off for security, the report added.
What is angiography?
Angiography is a procedure that utilises X-ray imaging to check the flow of blood through the blood vessels in various parts of the body like the brain, kidneys and lungs. The heart is the most common part of the body which is analysed using angiography. When the procedure is used to check blockages present in the coronary arteries (arteries that supply blood to the heart) the procedure is called coronary angiography. The image developed using angiography is called an angiogram. Angiography uses a special dye that is injected into the area under examination. The dye show up as white colour on the angiogram. Coronary angiography is used to diagnose various heart diseases including coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis and aneurysm. It also plays an important role in determining the treatment procedure for angina, heart attack and strokes. Coronary angiography is mostly recommended when the patient has undergone other heart tests like echocardiogram and stress test. Angiography can be painful for patients having narrow arteries. This is the reason why most patients avoid angiography which increases the risk of silent heart attacks. But advanced procedure calledsheathless angiography can help to minimize pain.
