Patanjali issues clarification after Defence CSD stops sale of Patanjali Amla Juice following lab report

Patanjali Ayurveda, a very well know brand, has again fallen into a pickle after a famous product of theirs was questioned and returned by the CSD of Defence. According to Economic Times reports, after the CSD received an adverse state- laboratory test report on Patanjali Amla Juice, the CSD asked all depots to remove all the existing stock so that the product can be returned. "The batch was tested at the Central Food Lab in Kolkata and was declared unfit for consumption." quotes ET. They also said that Patanjali Ayurveda has withdrawn all amla juices from all the canteens. Amla juice was one of the first products Patanjali Ayurveda came up with. Patanjali issued a press release where they have spoken on this issue. It says "Patanjali "Amla swaras" is sold as a proprietary Ayurvedic medicine and it has been clearly mentioned on the label that it should be consumed as advised by the physician and it doesn't come in any food category". It also says that,"It is a proprietary Ayurvedic medicine and should have been tested by the Department of Ayush and not by the Food Standards which is wrong."

This is not the first time Patanjali has gotten into a mess, last year, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India(FSSAI) had directed its central licensing arm to issue a show cause notice to Patanjali Ayurveda LTD over complaints about ' alleged misleading advertisement'. And stories like insect found in the Atta noodles produced by the same company had done many rounds.

We had recently done a live poll on our social media page where we had asked people whether they feel that the Patanjali products are actually chemical free or not. And we had asked them to vote Yes or No. We wanted to see their trust in this company, and surprisingly it turned out that out of 245 votes that the two-hour poll got, 170 people, believe that the products are chemical free and 63 people believe that they are not and 6 were non-applicable votes.
