Partho Ghosh, a renowned Indian filmmaker who directed several Bollywood films in the 1990s, died due to a heart attack. Rituparna Sengupta shared this news.
Partho had directed many popular Indian films, including Yugpurush (1998), Agni Sakshi (1996), Ghulam-E-Musthafa (1997), Teesra Kaun? (1994) and was known for developing such storylines that emotionally engage the audience of all generations.
In a touching tribute, Rituparna Sengupta shared her sorrow by saying, "Heartbroken beyond consolation, we have lost a great talent, a visionary filmmaker and a human being who was one of a kind. Partho da, your cinematic magic will be immortal. Rest in peace.
Partho Ghosh was well-loved for using a unique device of films to craft the social themes for mainstream success. Agni Sakshi, his film made with Manisha Koirala, Jackie Shroff and Nana Patekar, released in 1996, was marked in Indian Cinema by dealing with domestic acts of violence, and won numerous awards.
Another remarkable film was Ghulam-E-Musthafa (1997), this film starred Nana Patekar and Raveena Tandon, and has become a cult classic for its candid and expressive storytelling of the underworld.
Along with renowned films, he also directed many Hindi and Bengali television series, but he is most notable for introducing Rituparna Sengupta to Indian cinema in 1994. For the last few years, he was working on the sequels of 100 Days and Agni Sakshi.
