The FDA s seizure of Parle G s sweets, kaccha mango has resulted in the feisty company retaliating. Parle G has challenged the Bombay High courts decision to term the sweet unsafe and recall it from the market.
The FDA had raided the factory, situated at Nasik and Raigad a few days ago and had seized candies worth 2.36 crores. The FDA supported its stand by saying that the candy contained an excess of lactic acid.
According to Parle spokesperson they are waiting for the FDA s results, and they feel that they have been unfairly penalized. Justifying the lactic acid accusations, they said that lactic acid is a common additive in a number of products such as curd, infant milk-based formulations, bread, paneer etc. In its defence the FDA says that preliminary reports had shown the product to be unsafe . FDA officials say that Lactic Acid, in any quantity is not allowed in sugar boiled confectioneries.
