New Delhi, June 28 (IANS) Delhi Health Minsiter A.K. Walia stressed the need for utmost caution and a high level of preparedness to combat the outbreak of water and vector borne diseases during the current weather conditions. He warned that the weather is conducive to malaria, dengue, cholera, gastroenteritis and typhoid.
He advised people to take precautionary measures to keep such diseases under control. Walia was reviewing the situation on water and vector borne diseases in Delhi at a meeting attended by health officials.
What are water borne diseases?
As the name suggests, a disease that is transmitted by a bacteria or virus present in water is known as a water bourne disease. In the monsoons, there is a marked increase of flies, runoff from overflowing sewers, and added pollutants found from open defication and improper disposal of garbage that increase the risk of such diseases being spread.
