Oropouche Virus Outbreak: According to reported from the US CDC, a total of 21 cases of Oropouche virus has been detected among U.S. travelers who had returned from Cuba. This virus's prime mode of transmission is through the bite of an insect which is called midge. The symptoms accompanied along with this virus are: fever headache, joint aches and muscles pains. These patients who were tested as positive reported experiencing these symptoms between the month of May and July and as of August 16th, these reported came out as positive cases. According to a report, no deaths have been reported and three patients have been hospitalised so far.
The CDC had issued a health alert regarding the virus and its spread earlier this month. This was to notify public health authorities and clinicians regarding the sudden upsurge of this disease. This virus had so gar caused two deaths in America this year.
As per reports the CDC, along with state public health jurisdictions and other international partners are working towards a similar goal to conduct surveillance of the transmission of the virus and its rapid detection. This will help e4nable them to decide on the important public health measures that must be initiated. The Oropouch virus currently does not have any vaccines or specific method of treatment or cure.
