Odisha taking measures to tackle Swine Flu

The Odisha government has taken all possible measures to tackle swine flu in the state after two persons tested positive to H1N1 virus in Bhubaneswar, state's Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said here today. "Separate isolation wards will be set up in all three government-run medical colleges and district headquarter hospitals for treatment of swine flu patients. Chief district medical officers (CDMO) and superintendents of the medical colleges have been issued directions in this regard," Nayak said. (Read: 10 facts about Swine Flu you should know)

List of precautions to avoid swine flu:

  • Wash hands regularly
  • The infected should wear masks
  • Extra precaution for school-going children, diabetics or heart patients
  • Avoid closed and crowded places
  • Rush to hospital in case of high fever and breathlessness

He said a team of doctors has been formed to attend swine flu patients and adequate medicines have been stocked. "There is no need to panic as the government has already taken measures to tackle swine flu cases," Nayak said. The minister was here to attend the students' union function of MKCG Medical College and Hospital. He reviewed the preparedness of medical college and city hospital here to treat swine flu cases with the authorities and chief district medical officer (CDMO), Ganjam. Nayak said the person who came from New Delhi and tested positive for H1N1 virus was stable. Another person who was reportedly tested positive for influenza, was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Besides these two cases, no other case of swine flu was reported in the state, he added.
