Thanks to a new feature on Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration (GFDCA) portal, search for blood availability in blood banks of Gujarat in an emergency situation is now a click away. On Tuesday, the state food and drugs department launched a unique website developed by National Informatics Center (NIC). Apart from providing details of blood availability across every blood bank in the state, the website also provides information on drugs declared sub-standard and spurious by the FDCA.
We found that many people are helpless when it comes to the locating blood banks with adequate blood supplies at the time of emergency. We uploaded a new feature on our portal that enables people to locate blood banks having the rarest of rare blood groups in case of an emergency, said H.G. Koshia, Commissioner, GFDCA. This readily available information will be of great help not only for government hospitals but also normal citizens," he added.
By logging onto our portal one can find quantity of the particular blood group stock available with a blood bank. This e-governance feature has been added in view of public safety, he was quoted as saying. Developing a SMS model of this facility is on the cards which will further speed up the search and reduce time for blood availability.
Also, detailed list of chemists who stock lifesaving drugs and real time lab reports of substandard drugs that are tested by FDCA are provided by the website. The e-governance initiative has an SMS alert system which notifies recalled fake drugs and also issues drug licences online.
