Melbourne, Dec 17: According to a recent study that appeared in British Medical Journal, a simple way to lose those extra kilos is to breathe in and breath out more as you exercise or go on a brisk walk.
What the researchers said?
Ruben Meerman and Andrew Brown, researchers from the University of New South Wales in Australia, said that losing weight requires unlocking of carbon atoms present in the fat cells. This reinforces the fact that people should eat less and move more to lose weight. They further added, 'According to our calculations, lungs act as the primary excretory organ to remove fat from the body. This is because, more than 80 percent of the fat in the body can be exhaled through these organs.' (Read: Here s how you can lose weight, reduce belly fat in 20 ways, in 20 days)
How does this help?
The carbohydrates and proteins consumed through the diet are converted into triglycerides, a biomolecule consisting of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. So, people planning to lose weight are required to unlock the atoms present in triglycerides. This process is known as oxidation that helps in breaking these bonds and shedding excess fat.
The researchers found that around 8.4 kg of fat escapes through lungs as carbon dioxide (CO2), when a 10 kg of fat is oxidised completely. The remaining 1.6 kg fat is converted to water (H2O). (Read: The top 7 fruits that will guarantee weight loss!)
What did the study results indicate?
The study analysed that the amount of oxygen required for the complete oxidation of fat is nearly three times more than the fat that is lost from the body as water and carbon dioxide. This means that around 29 kg of oxygen should be inhaled for complete oxidation of 10 kg human fat. The researchers concluded by saying that the easy way to put off your weight is to eat less than your have exhaled by means of breathing. (Read: How to lose weight)
