We've all seen Barbie in a dolled-up, glam avatar which perhaps sets the tone for young girls on how to look fashionable. One thing that definitely ups the style quotient are those high heels or stilettos. But for the first time in 56 years, Barbie will be seen wearing flats!
According to Cosmopolitan, Mattel is giving the iconic doll a makeover with their Barbie Fashionista line, by changing the shape of their feet and ankles, which were previously designed to fit only heels.
Kim Culmone, vice president of design for Barbie said in an interview that Barbie was never designed to be realistic, and was always meant to be easy for girls to dress and undress them.
In addition to the flats, the range will also include Barbies of eight different skin tones, 14 different facial sculpts, 18 eye colours, 22 hair styles, and 23 hair colours.
Why you should too avoid wearing high heels
They may make you look fabulous but in the long run are only going to ruin your feet. According to a study conducted at the University of Queensland, Women who wear stilettos regularly have shorter and forceful strides even when they walk barefoot because their body gets accustomed to walking in high heels. This causes the tendons to shorten and results in more strain on the calf muscles.
