The Health Ministry has decided to dig its heels into the crisis of shortage of doctors in rural India. The ministry has approved of a new 3.5 year course, which will potentially create a cadre of community health officers for delivering basic medicare services in villages.
Called BSc in Community Health , the course will be under the aegis of the Medical Council of India (MCI), and taught at recognised rural health schools. These centres will be set up in villages with tie up with District hospitals.
