Los Angeles, Jan 26: The past year saw the most glamorous hair colour trends especially among Hollywood stars at red carpet events. They have done away with slime green, shades of purple and rainbow hues. Now, it's all about edgy, chick and subdued tones.
Celebrity hair colourist Jennifer J told eonline.com that she has somehow noticed a 'conservative' change in the hair colour trends this red carpet season. It's not pastel hues of purple and pink anymore. Amy Adams skipped her bright and vibrant copper red colour, opting for a muted tone. Jessica Chastain stuck to this trend as well and wore side swept curls at the 2015 Golden Globes.
Our Bollywood beauties have remained sultry and sleek with their hair styles too. Just recently we had the very 'exotic' Priyanka Chopra chop off her hair into a contemporary bob hair style with a shade of gold and light brown to it. Similarly, Sonakshi Sinha got heads turning with her red-burgundy bob and has ruled it just right. We do see her adding up her hair extensions if and when she wants to play around with her style a little more. She looked stunning with her Veronica curls!
Colour trends this season
Hemali Mullaji, Technical Consultant at Enrich Salons (Mumbai) says, For women the colours for this season are mahogany, browns, honey, coppers, using these colours in ombre effect looks fab.
Ombre
This hair colour is a bit of both - daring and sophisticated. This hair style calls for a contrast of ombre with a darker shade on the roots. To style your hair just like a diva with this colour, either go for poker-straight hair or soft curls. Or, to spare yourself from the fly-aways and open, messy hair even during an evening out, tie your hair into a fish tail braid. This would throw all the attention on the ombre tips.
Broody browns
There are simply a ton of shades that fall under this category and you could make your choice as per your preference, personality, skin tone and hair cut. Chestnut brown, dark brown, or dark chocolate brown, light ash brown, medium brown, hazel brown with light streaks or an eclectic shade of bronde which is a combination of blonde, brown and brunette shades of hair colour, is what you could pick from. Don't miss out on the hair colour trends this season.
Hair colour secrets
Styling
Even with this more muted trend, Jennifer says any coloured hair must be dyed evenly and styled 'a little bit more conservatively' for a glamorous, smooth, frizz-free effect expected on the red carpet.
Skin tone
Jennifer suggests that your choice of hair colour should do justice to your skin tone. It can be a quirky shade of lavender or a hazelnut brown. For instance, with reference to Indian skin tone, red and purple could be considered apart from shades of brown. Colours like blue, green and olive may not turn out as expected on Indian skin tone and hence could be avoided.
Hair texture
Makeover expert Aashmeen Munjaal advises, Going global on frizzy hair will only highlight it further.' So you might want to work on improving your hair texture before you consider going 'colour crazy.' Calm frizzy hair with this quick fix.
Hair length
Much importance is to be given to your hair length as well. Aashmeen says, Streaks of bold colours will suit your long tresses but a full head will destroy your entire look.' At the same time, don't overlook your skin. Here is how you can choose the right hair colour for yourself.
