New Year, New You: Tip #26 -- A glass of warm turmeric milk for a better night’s sleep

Are you sick and tired of running late to work every now and then? Is it that you are fatigued and sleep deprived during working hours? A regular habit of sipping onto some warm turmeric milk, before you hit the bed could save you the trouble.

The golden milk contains serotonin, a brain chemical along with melatonin and vital nutrients like calcium, vitamin A, D, phosphorous, magnesium, potassium. These combined with the benefits of turmeric work on relieving stress and inducing the much needed sleep. Warm turmeric milk acts upon releasing those tense muscles and makes it easier for you to fall asleep. Here are some more reasons you should have a glass of warm turmeric milk regularly.

Here is how you can have a tasty glass of haldi doodh:

Ingredients

1 cup milk

tsp turmeric

tsp cardamom

1/8 tsp ground black pepper

1/8 tsp vanilla extract

Honey to taste

1 pinch ground ginger

1 pinch ground cloves

Method

  1. Mix turmeric, cardamom, black pepper, ginger, cloves, all together in a small bowl.
  2. Heat 1 cup of milk in a saucepan over medium heat for not more that 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the honey and vanilla extract into the saucepan with milk until you see a fine consistency.
  4. To this, add only 1 tsp of the turmeric mixture into the saucepan.
  5. Cook this mixture on mid-low heat for about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Once done, strain the milk out.
