NaMo's yoga pose of the day: Shavasana or corpse pose

Yoga is one of the major initiatives Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced since he took the office. He has scored a win after United Nations declared 21st June as the International Yoga Day. He has been tweeting daily on yoga postures and their importance. Today s yoga pose is shavasana or the corpse pose that is very calming and restorative in nature. The asana helps lower blood pressure, reduce headache and can be an excellent way to get a good night s sleep.

Steps to do the asana:

  • Lie down on your back with your eyes closed.
  • Keep your legs comfortable and let your knees relax completely. Place your arms alongside and spread a little apart from your body. Make sure that you leave your palms open.
  • Try and draw attention to the tip of your nose and observe your breath.
  • Keep breathing slowly, deeply and gently and allow your breath to relax you. Make sure you don t fall asleep.
  • After 5-10 minutes whenever you feel relaxed slowly get up and sit in sukhasana or easy pose.
