Mysterious Fever Reported In UP, Kills More Than 30 Kids And 7 Adults
Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, announced on Monday that a strange dengue-like virus has killed 32 children and seven adults in Firozabad. Adityanath paid a visit to the relatives of those who had died, assuring them of his support. The Chief Minister also paid a visit to Firozabad's 100-bed district hospital, where youngsters with symptoms of the disease are being treated. The Chief Minister informed reporters, "The dedicated Covid-19 ward at the district hospital of Firozabad is reserved for patients suffering from this fever."
The government has pressed the panic button after a spike in cases of 'viral fever' in some districts in western Uttar Pradesh, including Mathura, Firozabad, and Mainpuri. Manish Asija, a BJP MLA from Firozabad, said on Sunday that 40 youngsters died from the sickness last week.
There have been reports that a mysterious fever has been reported in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. During preliminary inquiry in Mathura, nine cases of mite-borne rickettsiosis, often known as 'scrub typhus,' were discovered, a first for the district. The health service had issued a notice after lab findings revealed that 29 patients, ranging in age from two to 45, tested positive on Sunday.
As per media reports, the viral fever in Mathura has been recognized as scrub typhus, which is a disease caused by a bacteria called Orientia tsutsugamushi. Also known as bush typhus, people become infected after being bitten by infected chiggers (larval mites).
Scrub typhus symptoms are comparable to those of many other vector-borne or rickettsial infections, and they usually appear within 10 days of being bitten, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Fever and chills, headaches, body aches, rashes, and muscle soreness are some of the symptoms.
A black, scab-like patch develops where the chigger bites, which is also known as eschar. According to the CDC, after contracting the virus, a person may undergo mental changes ranging from disorientation to coma. The infection can also cause respiratory distress, brain and lung inflammation, renal failure, and eventually multi-organ failure, which can result in death.
Even though the number of deaths reported post the viral infection has become a cause of concern, no confirmation on the exact cause of mortality has been reported in Firozabad.
