Of the 79,042 individuals surveyed by Nielsen, a market research company this year, Mumbai has gained the dubious distinction of being a very ill city, thanks to the over-populated and an increase in the pollution levels.
Of all the cities surveyed - Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad, the incidence of persons suffering from common cold in Mumbai is the highest. 'Forty-nine per cent of all people surveyed in the city complained of contracting a common cold at least once in six months. This is the highest of incidences in all cities,' stated the Nielsen health monitor 2013 report.
Also the report stated that cases of constipation were reported by 14% of all those surveyed in Mumbai, which is also the highest amongst all the eight cities. ' Cases of bad dietary habits and immense stress is leading to constipation and irregular bowel movements amongst Mumbaikars,' said Dr Amol Manerkar, physician at Kohinoor Hospital in Kurla.
