Mumbai: The Monsoon continues to pour down in many parts of India resulting in Mumbai being the epicentre of various diseases. In the last 15 days, the city has reported 694 patients with gastroenteritis, 282 cases of malaria, 166 cases of dengue, and 53 cases of swine flu. According to the Bombay Municipal Corporation(BMC), the authority has already deployed 3000 beds in suburban hospitals to tackle the outbreak. BMC also ensured the OPD service was continued from 4 PM to 6 PM to cater to and restrict the number of increasing patients.
To combat the spread and bring awareness the municipality has also launched a public awareness campaign through a short film named "Bhaag Makhar Bhaag" featuring many Marathi and Hindi film industry actors. The campaign aims to enlighten citizens about the importance of mosquito prevention measures so that diseases like dengue and malaria can be prevented. Dengue fever starts 5-7 days after the mosquito bite where as Malaria symptoms may take upto a month to appear. However, you should be cautious about these symptoms once they occur in the rainy season or just after monsoon.
