Trying to control the dengue outbreak, the health department has asked all government and private laboratories to immediately report dengue cases. This move is to ensure that the patients receive immediate treatment. According to officials, laboratories take about three days to send back a report to the respective hospital, this, in the case of dengue patients causes a delay in treatment that can prove fatal.
Health Minister Suresh Shetty, looked into all the preventive measures in place at a recent meeting. According to reports, Mumbai has recorded a total of 38 deaths due to dengue so far. This number is inclusive of people who were admitted to municipal hospitals as well as in rural areas. Last year the disease claimed 21 lives.
The Health Minister has declared it compulsory for labs to inform municipal corporations and district authorities about the dengue cases.
