PM Modi does his bit, some practical tips you could follow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday planted a 'Kadam' (Neolamarckia Cadamba) sapling at his official residence to mark the World Environment Day. Modi used the occasion to urge every family in the country to plant trees in the upcoming monsoon season.

The families should also take pride in the number of trees planted by them, in the same way they take pride in worldly possessions, an official release quoted him as saying. 'Living in harmony with nature is the only way to avoid a catastrophic situation on mother earth,' he said.

To do our bit for the environment, we don t need to take large steps; even small gestures can help in the long run. How about using resources in an economic manner as the first step towards saving the environment?

Here are some practical tips you can easily apply in your day-to-day life that will help you consume with care.

Water

  • Instead of using the shower, bathe with water in a bucket. You ll save litres.
  • Don t leave the tap on while brushing or shaving, you ll waste a lot of water.

Food

  • Serve only the amount you think you can eat. Take a second serving if required, but don t waste food.
  • Use leftovers the next day instead of throwing them away.

Electricity

  • Opt for energy saving electronics to consume less electricity.

Paper

  • As far as possible, opt for e-bills, emails, etc.
  • Take prints on both sides of the sheet to use less paper.

Fuel

  • Drive at a speed between 40-80 kmph which is more efficient and consumes less fuel.
  • Make sure your vehicle is serviced from time to time so that it does not require more fuel.
