A new study has revealed no evidence of a link between mobile phone usage and brain cancer. This study appeared in the Cancer Epidemiology journal. Read: Smartphone radiations do not cause cancer. However, your smartphone can ruin your metabolism.
The team of Australian researchers tracked the incidence of brain cancer in the country's population from 1982 to 2013. They found there was no statistical evidence supporting the idea that using a mobile can cause cancer. Over the 30 year period, the results showed a slight increase in brain cancer among men but a stable rate among women.
Lead author Simon Chapman said that the observed stability of brain cancer incidence in Australia between 1982 and 2012 in all age groups, except in those over 70 years compared to increasing modelled expected estimates, suggests that the observed increases in brain cancer incidence in the older age group are unlikely to be related to mobile phone use.
This study completely contradicts another one that got published in the journal Pathophysiology in 2014 1,380 patients with malignant brain tumours to people without such tumours participated. The then compared both the groups phone use. People who reported using cordless or mobile phones for 20 to 25 years had higher risk of being diagnosed with glioma or brain cancer as compared with those who reported using them for less than a year, the study found. However, no link was found between wireless phones and malignant brain tumours besides glioma, pointed out the study.
The researchers then concluded that brain tumour rates were three times more among people, who spoke on cell or cordless phones after more than 25 years than those who did not use them. Read: Mobile phones and your health so what s the real deal?
