Smartphone app to track sleep disorders: Suffering from sleep apnea? Now, getting diagnosed for sleep disorders is much easier than visiting a doctor with a new smartphone app. This smartphone-based technology uses earbuds equipped with an in-line microphone and an Apple iPhone and analysis participants’ breathing habits.
Do you love your smartphone so much that can t just stop texting or watching videos? Well, contrary to popular belief, it can actually be good for your health. Moreover, if you aim to lose weight this year. A study says that using your smartphone apps like instant texting or video apps make you think more about living a healthy life and dieting which in turn helps you lose weight. The research conducted at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in the US says that it is easier to lose weight with the support of your cell phone. Tanika Kelly, associate professor of epidemiology, said that, In conjunction with reducing caloric intake and increasing physical activity, mobile messaging services could help to maintain and sustain weight loss over time. It reminds us to continue our good behaviours.
A study performed by Fangchao Liu, an advanced PhD student from China was carried out on 1337 participants who underwent mobile phone interventions. It was realised that mobile phone interventions aid in the weight loss process and also help in reducing the body mass index. (Read: Eat 6 times a day to lose weight)
This results obtained by this study were modest with weight loss being 1.44 kg on average during the six-month and 12 month studies. However, Kelly said that individual weightloss can have important public health implications for populations. Obesity and being overweight is directly linked to cardiovascular disease and diabetes and hence is a major global health challenge. Even modest levels of sustained weight loss can yield substantial reductions in weight-related morbidity, mortality and healthcare costs, Kelly said.
