Filmmaker Amit Virmani is in talks with Independent Television Service (ITVS) to screen his film in different girls' schools in India in an attempt to raise awareness about hygiene.
'We are talking with ITVS to show these films in girls schools here... they are planning something in India and will roll it out soon,' said the Singapore-based filmmaker during the screening of his film Menstrual Man at the second edition of Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF) 2013.
The 63-minute documentary revolves around Arunachalam Muruganantham, an Indian social entrepreneur, who is on a mission to improve the hygiene standards of rural women and make sanitary pads affordable to them.
A school dropout, Muruganantham realised that the majority of women in India couldn't afford sanitary pads and decided to do something about it.
Once mocked by his own community, he is now acknowledged as a visionary for empowering rural women with access to both feminine hygiene and a livelihood.
Viramani says that he is showing the film in many schools abroad.
'We are showing in Singapore with three-four girls schools. We did impromptu screening in New York too and other places,' he added.
