memory lossMemory loss usually begins at 57 years of age, but can hit you even in your 30s, suggests a survey involving more than 1,000 adults aged over 50 years. Most of the elderly become concerned about memory and find themselves in embarrassing situations before they reach retirement age. Ten percent claimed that their memory began to diminish during their 40s and six percent said their powers of recall had begun eroding in their 30s, the ‘Telegraph’ reports. Examples included leaving the house with no socks on and forgetting how to spell routine words like ‘hour’. In one case, someone reported forgetting their own name at a business meeting. The most commonly forgotten things were people’s names, an experience reported by a third of people above 50 years of age, household items like keys and glasses (19 percent) and PIN numbers (13 percent). The survey was commissioned by ‘Love to Learn’, a website which offers memory training courses. Gill Jackson, director of ‘Love to Learn’, said: ‘Memory changes throughout your lifetime and your brain has a remarkable ability to adapt and thrive.’ Also Read - OSU researchers suggest a better way to identify kids with attention disorder
