Meghan Markle Health News: In the latest episode of her newly launched podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, the Duchess of Sussex - Meghan Markle opened up about a deeply personal and harrowing postpartum experience. On an emotional note, Markle revealed that she battled one of the scariest post-delivery health issues - postpartum preeclampsia a rare but scary medical condition that mothers often develop after childbirth.
Describing the condition as "so rare" and "so scary," the Duchess of Sussex reflected on the emotional toll it took. "You're still trying to juggle all these things, and the world doesn't know what's happening. Quietly, you're still trying to show up for people," she said. "Mostly, you're trying to show up for your children. But those moments are huge medical scares."
While Meghan did not disclose whether the diagnosis occurred after the birth of her son Archie, 5, or daughter Lilibet, 3, her candid account brings much-needed attention to a condition that is often misunderstood, underreported, and potentially life-threatening.
Postpartum preeclampsia is a scary health condition that is mainly marked by uncontrolled blood pressure or high blood pressure and the presence of protein in the urine (a condition that can leave the body dealing with extreme nutrient deficiency and fatigue). The condition usually develops within 48 hours of childbirth but may emerge as late as six weeks postpartum. According to the Preeclampsia Foundation, symptoms can include severe headaches, vision changes, pain under the ribs, vomiting, and sudden swelling in the face, hands, or feet. If left untreated, it can lead to life-threatening complications such as seizures, stroke, and organ failure.
When left untreated and uncontrolled, postpartum preeclampsia can trigger seizures (eclampsia), stroke, deadly blood clots, or even multiple organ failure. In order to stay safe, doctors urge all new mothers to seek Immediate medical attention after spotting any of the signs associated with the condition.
Meghan's revelation highlights not only the medical severity of the condition but also the emotional complexity that accompanies such a diagnosis. Many mothers, particularly high-profile ones like Meghan, feel pressure to return to their public roles or family obligations soon after childbirth. This expectation can lead to neglect of one's own health needs, even when symptoms are present.
"I think for many mothers, especially in the early postpartum period, there's this immense desire to keep going, to be there for everyone else," Meghan said. "But what I've learned is that we can't pour from an empty cup."
Her message hits home for countless women who silently endure medical complications due to the fear of being judged, dismissed, or misunderstood.
This candid health confession marks a powerful start to Meghan's podcast journey, following her recent ventures including the Netflix series With Love, Meghan and her new brand As Ever.
With her latest platform, Meghan aims to create a space for honest conversations about womanhood, leadership, and the often-hidden challenges faced by women-including those that unfold long after the cameras are off.
