In a bone-chilling twist, a honeymoon in Meghalaya ended with the brutal murder of an Indore-based man, Raja Raghuvanshi, allegedly at the hands of his own wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.
His lifeless body was discovered on June 2, tossed into a deep gorge near the Weisawdong Falls parking lot in East Khasi Hills a place known for its natural beauty, now scarred by horror. What followed next stunned the nation: Sonam mysteriously vanished, only to later surrender under pressure from the police in Uttar Pradesh, unveiling a web of betrayal, hired killers, and a sinister plot hatched within days of their wedding.
The honeymoon was just a facade behind it lay a murderous conspiracy, meticulously planned and heartlessly executed.
According to police officials, the suspects "surrendered under pressure" after the body of Raja Raghuvanshi, a resident of Indore and husband of the prime accused, was discovered. Raghuvanshi was allegedly murdered during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. Following the recovery of his body, his wife, Sonam, had gone missing. She was later traced and taken into custody from Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh. Sonam ultimately surrendered at the Nandganj police station on Sunday night.
The General of Police (Law and Order), Dalton P Marak, while talking to the reporters, said, "Sonam surrendered under pressure last night, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to four. One accused remains missing. Sonam will be brought back to Meghalaya for court proceedings."
In the investigation process, the police have yet to find four individuals guilty, including his wife. The three other accused were arrested from different states; one in Uttar Pradesh, and two in Madhya Pradesh's Indore.
Earlier, last month on May 21, the couple checked into Balaji Guest House in Shillong for their honeymoon. That's where the horrifying sequence of events unfolded, where the wife plotted the murder of her husband, taking his life forever.
This is not the first time that such an incident has occurred. In recent times, such shocking events have been quite recurrent, where a spouse has allegedly killed their partner within a few days of a marriage.
