Man in Belgium showing Ebola-like symptoms, quaratined

A man has been quarantined in Belgium over fears of a suspected case of Ebola. The Federal Public Health Authority confirmed that a patient suffering with Ebola-like symptoms was admitted to Saint Pierre University Hospital in Brussels, Xinhua reported. According to officials, the man recently returned from Guinea, one of the highly affected countries in West Africa. According to a spokesperson from Saint Pierre’s Hospital, the man was suffering from high fever. ‘It may take 48 hours before we know the diagnosis. On Sunday, a patient was admitted to a Brussels hospital suffering from what was believed to be the virus, but it turned out to be a false alarm. On Thursday, Health Minister Maggie de Block will meet with other European ministers to discuss possible ways to curb the spread of the deadly virus within Europe, including the possibility of the introduction of health checks at airports and major train stations. So far, Britain is the only European Union (EU) member state that has introduced such measures.

What is the Ebola incubation period?

The Ebola virus disease (EVD) is a serious clinical condition caused by a virus. Also known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, the virus spreads through close contact with the body fluids of an infected person. Ebola is considered to be a clinical emergency all over the world and hence it is important to be aware of its symptoms and incubation period to prevent health issues. The incubation period of the Ebola virus is 2 21 days which means that a person infected with the virus takes around 2 to 21 days to show symptoms of this disease. Although in most cases the symptoms appeared after 8-10 days after being infected with the virus. It is in this period of incubation that the virus attacks the immune system.
