Mad Max: Fury Road is a movie set in a dystopian world where survival isn't simple. To play the role, Tom Hardy had to look tough and hungry, and had to lose 30 pounds.
Hardy's look
Speaking about his look in the movie, Tom Hardy told collider.com, "Imagine a hungry wolf. Or like when you put a cat in the bath. You grab a cat by the throat and stuff it under the fucking water. You know what it looks like? That's what I'm going to look like. But like a puma. Very hungry at very dangerous. It's imperative. This is the kind of guy who's not well. So I have to create that reality."
Hardy's fitness regime and diet
"I'm training now. Even though I'm smoking. I'm meant to drop 30 pounds so smoking and one meal a day is my training at the moment. I'm going to start fighting soon. The harder stuff, as we get close to the line. I'll probably get three or four months of fight training out there. Seven days a week. All that kind of horrible shit.", Hardy said.
Hardy's Warrior workout
Earlier in his career, Hardy had bulked up to play a mixed martial fighter in Warrior. His trainer, Pnut had said that the gains were a result of the 'signalling' philosophy. "I call my philosophy signalling. Throughout the day you need to send constant signals to your body, so that it adapts in the direction you point it in. It's better to do 10 press-ups every hour than 100 in a single burst. If you do things often enough, your body adapts for the task you set it, and you evolve.", he told Men's Health.
