Even as the country fights the rising COVID-19 cases and severe monkeypox outbreaks, reports of fast-spreading lumpy skin diseases across 8 states have left the health authorities worried. According to the data, at least 7,300 animals have died so far in India due to the disease. Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is a contagious viral disease that primarily affects cattle. The virus is transmitted by blood-feeding insects, such as certain species of flies and mosquitoes, or ticks. The disease causes fever, nodules on the skin and can also lead to death.
