Youthful, glowing skin is something that women are constantly striving for and this is the reason why one in three women feel pressure to look young, says a survey. New research from cosmetic brand Sanctuary Spa Wonder Oil Serum found that women feel pressure to look young and this is the reason why two-thirds of British women now use anti-ageing products, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

The survey says the biggest compliment one can still pay to a woman over 35 is to tell her that she looks young rather than slim with 60 percent of women admitting this gives them the biggest confidence boost. The research also found that one in five women worry about how old they look every day with 10 percent admitting to thinking about it several times each day. (Read: Is your skin ageing prematurely? 'In my job, I see far too many women lacking confidence in their appearance because of societal pressures,' said celebrity facialist and Sanctuary Spa skincare expert, Nichola Joss. 'As a mother it's disheartening to learn that women think about how old they look several times a day, and worse still that under 24s believe they look older than they actually are. Age is something that should be celebrated and embraced,' added Joss.

Also the research says that women are their own harshest critics earlier on in life, with one in five under the age of 24 believing they look older than they actually are compared to just 7 percent who are over 55. 'Wrinkles will befall us all and there are products which provide a visible improvement in the skin's appearance, but ultimately, the idea that growing older is bad has to stop,' said Joss. Here are tips to prevent wrinkles and other signs of ageing

1. Avoid excess exposure to the sun

It s the no. 1 cause of wrinkles with dozens of studies documenting the impact. Protect your skin from sun rays firstly by staying indoors while the sun is strongest. Secondly get into the habit of wearing a sunscreen with a good enough SPF every time you go out. Apply it at least 20 to 30 minutes before stepping out in the sun and reapply it every few hours.

2. Drink lots of water

Insufficient hydration is the second major cause of excessive wrinkles. In order to stay moist and elastic, your skin needs a constant supply of water. If you fail to get enough fluids in your body, cells will start to lose elasticity and eventually wrinkles shall start surfacing.

3. Quit smoking

Apart from the many well-documented ill-effects of smoking on the body, smoking also causes premature ageing of the skin mainly by reducing blood supply and nourishment to the skin. This makes the skin lose its elasticity and moisture. Also while smoking, some repetitive actions like squinting to protect the eyes from aggressive fumes and constantly dragging the cigarette fumes into his/her mouth causes wrinkles over time at the corners of the eyes and the mouth.
