Long-distance relationship a challenge for Nicole Scherzinger

American singer Nicole Scherzinger says having a long-distance relationship with British Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton is a 'challenge'. 'Our biggest challenge is long distance, but I feel like I'm mostly here in the UK, even though my home is in the US,' she was quoted by contactmusic.com as saying. She also said that she is keen to have children with Hamilton, but only 'in the right time'. She said: 'I come from a big family and I'm a family person and one day, when god wills it, I will have a family but in the right time.' Can a long-distance relationship work?

For many, it can be a turning point in their relationship when one person has to move. There is a general notion that such relationships don t last as the romance fizzles out sooner or later. Says Nandita, Many long-distance relationships certainly succeed, but they require careful steering from the people involved to direct through the obstacles brought on by geography. Efforts are required from both parties to build and maintain the relationship with trust, understanding, support, love otherwise things can go sour.

What can go wrong?

Being in a long-distance relationship can be tough and there are certain problems which can crop up over time. These include:

  • Communication barriers or misunderstanding.
  • Usually the idea of being in two different places also means that their ideals might also differ. And monogamy can also be a challenge.
