List Of Drugs That Got Costlier Post April 1: Check Out The Price And Other Details
The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) announced on April 1 that there will be an increase in the prices of more than 900 essential drug available for sale in the market. Starting April 1, the prices has increased up tp 1.74 per cent. The list of medicine specified by the NPPA includes important medicines for heart diseases, diabetes and critical infections.
The Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel said in a written reply in Lok Sabha, ""Further, as per provisions of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 (DPCO, 2013), these ceiling prices of scheduled medicines are revised annually based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) (all commodities). The ceiling prices of scheduled medicines for the financial year 2024-25 were increased by 0.00551 per cent with effect from 1.4.2024, based on annual change in WPI (all commodities). NPPA also fixes the retail price of new drugs, as defined in paragraph 2(1)(u) of DPCO, 2013."
The regulator in a statement to the media also said that the annual change in WPI works out as (+) 1.74028 per cent during the calendar year 2024 over the corresponding period in 2023. According to media reports these are the following drugs that will be sold in hiked prices:
As per news reports, the drug manufacturers may also increase the maximum retail prices of these formulations of these medicines based on this WPI. This apparently will not require any prior approval of the centre.
