Latest Ebola News: Unicef helps Guinea to fight Ebola

ebolaUnicef will continue to support Guinea in its fight against the Ebola virus disease outbreak by providing necessary materials, the agency's Regional Director for West and Central Africa Region, Manuel Fontaine, has said. Fontaine was speaking in Conakry Friday after meeting Guinea's President Alpha Conde to discuss the ongoing war against Ebola, Xinhua reported.

'Unicef will play a role in communication and mobilisation of the population, helping to avert panic and negative information that creates complicated situations. All this will be done to help Guinea,' he said. By the end of August, Unicef had offered Guinea 430,000 soaps, 230,000 chlorine vials, over 20,000 posters, 500 hand washing points, 100 motorcycles and other communication materials to be used in the Ebola-hit regions.

Here are some tips to prevent Ebola infection

Educate yourself about Ebola: Knowing the symptoms, modes of transmission and preventive measures is the first step to prevent the spread of the disease. This information is especially important for those who are travelling to and from affected areas in West Africa.

Avoid crowded places: Direct contactis an easier way of transfer of virus. So, the sick should be isolated from healthy individuals to prevent spread of the disease.

Use protective gear: For healthcare workers and medical staff, it is absolutely mandatory to use protective gear including gloves and special masks and a body suit to prevent exposure to the virus. Do not eat under-cooked meat: The virus seems to have transferred to humans through animals. Although bats are suspected as the original reservoir of the virus, it is also been found to spread to other animals. In any case, it is best to avoid eating undercooked meat.
