A nurse, suffering from high fever, has been suspected Ebola virus infection on Thursday. She has been to a hospital outside Paris, media reported Thursday. The nurse was admitted to Begin military hospital in Paris suburbs, Xinhua reported citing the Le Parisien.
The suspected case has been in a constant contact with a volunteer with Medecins sans Frontieres (MSF) who came in contact with the virus in Liberia and was sent home last month, the report said. On Oct 5, the first French national infected with Ebola recovered after receiving experimental treatment for the virus.
Last Friday, Health Minister Marisol Touraine said she would not comment on suspected Ebola cases until tests were done. On Wednesday, French President Francois Hollande announced tough procedures at the country's airports to check passengers coming from West Africa where the deadly Ebola epidemic left thousands of people dead.
Here are some warning signs and symptoms of Ebola infection
Fever: Increase in body temperature is the first defence mechanism that the body uses to kill any foreign particle invading the body. When Ebola infects the body, it causes a release of various compounds like cytokines and histamines that pass on the signals of increasing body temperature. In fact, Ebola virus disease is also called the Ebola haemorrhagic fever, where the temperature can go above 38.6 C or 101.5 F.
Headache: It is the most common symptom of Ebola infection after fever, present in almost 96 percent of the cases. Nausea and headache along with fever present a typical case of common cold and flu. At this stage, the symptoms can be confused with other common infections.
Stomach pain: A few viral particles invade the liver and starts destroying the hepatocytes. New virions start damaging the intestinal cells causing abdominal pain.
