A 22-year old man has been suspected of deadly Ebola virus disease in Myanmar. According to the information ministry provided Wednesday, the suspect was working in Guinea and Liberia, two of the worst Ebola-hit West African countries. He was suspected during the routine screening process of passengers at the Yangon International Airport Tuesday, Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying on its website.
The man had fever. He had arrived from Bangkok and was immediately isolated in a ward in the outskirts of the capital city. He will be retained there until confirmation of the deadly disease, added reports. On the other hand, Myanmar is taking necessary preventive measures against the spread of Ebola in the wake of the discovery of such disease in four West African countries. Detection of the virus is being done at airports and ports by using modern equipment and training courses and infection control programmes are being carried out at the country's healthcare facilities. According to its earlier statement, the health ministry is cooperating with its counterparts from other countries, UN agencies, local international non-governmental organisations and civil societies for related preventive measures.
